Gualala Arts Lecture Series presents:
Redwood Forest Conservation

with Don Kemp, Art Harwood, and Greg Giusti
Monday, January 19, 2009, 7:00 p.m.
$5 donation requested

On Monday, January 19, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., Don Kemp returns to Gualala Arts to moderate a two part program sponsored by the Redwood Forest Foundation (RFFI).

Usal Redwood Forest: healthy forest The presentation will open with a 15 minute Usal Redwood Forest map "Usal Forest Update" by RFFI's Executive Director, Art Harwood, in which he will explain what has transpired with this unique non-profit effort to establish a community-based forest since RFFI's last Gualala Arts talk in January 2008.

It has only been a year and a half since RFFI purchased 50,635 acres of forest in Mendocino County north of Fort Bragg. The once thriving ancient forest was heavily logged in the 1970's and 80's and is now dominated by second-growth Douglas fir and tan Oak. Harwood will explain the progress made in RFFI's efforts to restore this ancient land.

The second part of the program will feature a presentation by Greg Giusti, RFFI Ex Officio Board Member and University of California Cooperative Extension Forest Advisor. Giusti will address the relationships between forest ecology and fire and discuss considerations for future actions and needs when addressing risk and management in the Redwood Region.

Whatever your position on logging, you should not miss this informative and inspiring talk. More information on RFFI is available on their website, www.rffi.org. There are no ticket sales for the lecture, but a $ 5.00 donation will be collected at the door.
