The Mendonoma Chamber Chorus will be performing "Sing in the Season," its annual holiday concert on Sunday, December 1 at 4:00 p.m. in the Elaine Jacob Foyer at Gualala Arts Center.
The Mendonoma Chamber Chorus, a small a capella group founded in 2011, will present its third annual holiday concert featuring seasonal songs by great composers of yesterday and today. A 45 minute performance will be followed by refreshments. The 2013 holiday program will include pieces ranging from sacred music and Spanish folk carols of the 16th century to a light-hearted arrangements familiar seasonal repertoire.
The Chamber Chorus began as an informal, afternoon voice coaching session with local singers under the direction of former resident and choral director Michael Bierbaum. Since it was so much fun to sing together, the chorus decided to share their joy of singing with performances that benefit the Gualala Arts Center. They will be singing in the Gualala Arts Center's spacious atrium, which offers acoustics that are ideal for this type of music.
As in their 2013 summer performance, they will again be joined by mezzo-soprano Jennifer Beattie, who has been hailed by Opera News Online for her "exuberant voice and personality". Jennifer resides in Philadelphia and sings with the Mendonoma Chamber Chorus while visiting her parents in San Francisco and The Sea Ranch.
The small size of the group and the absence of instrumental accompaniment create an intimate connection between audience and vocalists. The Chamber Chorus has enjoyed creating itself and its repertoire, and plans to be a part of the community for years to come. They welcome new members who enjoy the challenge and rewards of a capella singing.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $5 more on the day of the performance.
Children and youth 17 and under are free and encouraged to attend.
