Gualala Arts is delighted to once again present "Dance in the Redwoods" to its local audience with the
San Francisco Ballet School Trainees are returning for a 3rd season!
I invite the community to share my enthusiasm and follow these young dancers as they embark upon their professional careers! Please join me and welcome the current Trainees when they return to perform this November 8th and 9th.
To see the status of several of the young Trainees who performed here previously and are now Company members of the San Francisco Ballet, and other professional companies worldwide, visit the
San Francisco Ballet School website.
This year the dancers will perform a mixed program including Helgi Tomasson's Bizet Pas de Deux, an excerpt from Val Caniparoli's Violin, and a world premier of a new ballet choreographed by Parrish Maynard.
Helgi Tomasson, Artistic Director & Principal Choreographer of San Francisco Ballet and SF Ballet School Director, created the SF Ballet School Trainee Program to cultivate the most advanced students from the School as they embark upon a professional career. The program is designed to enrich their experience as performers and to enhance their stage presence, musicality, and artistic qualities.
The School's Associate Director, Patrick Armand, oversees the School and is responsible for the dancers' daily training. He travels with the Trainees to oversee their daily class and rehearsals before performance.
The daily training for a dancer includes a "class" at the start of every day. Classes involve a gradually more difficult series of exercises and routines to warm the dancers' bodies before they begin their rehearsals and performances.
Individuals who purchase Sponsor Tickets for the Friday evening performance are invited to view these classes taking place earlier in the day on Friday and also on Saturday morning prior to performance. Become a Sponsor and call the Arts Center at (707) 884-1138 during the week of November 4th to learn the class schedule.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that Gualala Arts and I thank an anonymous donor who has become primary sponsor of the Dance in the Redwoods 2013 event.
Bringing the San Francisco Ballet School Trainees to perform at the Gualala Arts Center could also not happen without the participation of Holmgren and Associates, Garden by the Sea, Surf Market and Gualala Supermarket and the many volunteers who contribute everything from preparing meals, to housing and transportation to and from rehearsals and performances.
Please take this opportunity to add your name to those who contribute to the success of all Gualala Arts events by contacting David "Sus" Susalla at 707-884-1138, ext. 12 to offer your support to this or other performances.
