"Hanging Kites" |
|
Gualala Arts needed a way to raise funds for lights designed to illuminate pieces of art in foyer and hallway exhibits and to update lights in the gallery, so... We are asking people to design and construct kites that can fly. If they are innovative, so much the better. They will be hung from the beams in the foyer, spilling into the auditorium if there are enough entries. The kites will be donated by their makers, and during the month that they are up, there will be a silent auction, with interested buyers entering their bids on a list that will be provided in the foyer; and then the highest bidders will pick up their kites at the end of the exhibit on August 8. There is no fee to enter this show. Entry forms are available at Gualala Arts Center or online at gualalaarts.org. Kites must be submitted for hanging by July 7. For kites that are more than 3 feet square, please contact Merilyn Lafferty at 785-1949 or mmlaf@mcn.org to plan placement in the show. The show will open July 9 along with the Woodworkers Show in the Gallery. It's still not too late to register for the kite fundraiser in July. If you are not sure how to construct a kite, access Google to discover pages of "how to's"! There is an amazing amount of information available on the internet, and it really is quite simple to make a kite that will really fly! The fun part is the original ideas that an individual envisions to make a kite unique, whether it be shape or color, or an eyecatching pattern. Gualala Arts Center is located at 46501 Old State Highway in Gualala, and is open from 9 am to 4 pm weekdays, and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Please call (707) 884-1138 for more information.
