"Home as Art" |
Opening on the same day as the Soroptomist's Architectural Tour, On Saturday, May 7, from 5 to 7 p.m., Gualala Arts will debut its "Home as Art" exhibit in the Elaine Jacob Foyer. The opening coincides with the Soroptimists annual Architectural Tour, which makes May 7 a fun-filled day for those who appreciate home design! The exhibit will run through June 5 and will showcase many of our local artisans who specialize in turning the ordinary into extraordinary. A case piece by Gualala Joinery is not only useful, but is also an art piece when designed and built by David Mayer and Mark Haveman. Hansine Pedersen Goran's carpets are more than just rugs - they are fine handmade pieces of contemporary art. Completing the large-scale interior design will be a simple 8-ft. sculpture by local metal worker Kentucky John. John is also finishing a large round metal coffee table, perfect for our casual coast living. Susan Ventrella has used those gorgeous large pots you see in her local nursery to create an innovative table base. Coming from Fort Bragg, Buster Dyer will bring a hand blown glass chandelier. Hal and Jan Fogel will feature new pieces they have created especially for the Home As Art show - Jan's vibrant paintings and Hal's mentally stimulating artwork. On the mezzanine, Donna Bishop is excited to show her new bed coverings. She's offering darker and lighter versions of her organic contemporary vision. She's also commissioned an artist to create a headboard and matching tables from willow and copper. Outdoors, David Wayne Floyd will reveal some of his environmental fantasies with original doors and outdoor furniture. From Little River, Christiansen-Arner will install a stunning stone and water sculpture. Anna Dobbins will display her handmade gates, made to complement beautiful coastal gardens. Many more Home As Art pieces will be showing at Gualala Arts Center. Those who are in the process of creating their dream home will be particularly interested in this exhibit, and our coastal artisans are eager to introduce themselves and their work. As part of the Home As Art exhibit, local businesses will present their products and services in a one-day "Business Park" on Saturday, May 7, at the Arts Center. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet business owners and find out what is locally available for your home needs. Gualala Arts Center is located at 46501 Old State Highway in Gualala, and is open from 9 am to 4 pm weekdays, and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Please call (707) 884-1138 for more information.
