The concert choir Carmina Slovenica with its conductor Karmina Šilec
are one of the leading young women's ensembles in choral music
worldwide. They are friends of local conductor-musicians, Bob Geary
and Sue Bohlin, who are helping to produce the northern California part
of their tour.
The choir has the central position on the Slovenian and international
music scene. It has performed on concert stages worldwide - from the
Hong Kong Cultural Centre to the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.
Carmina Slovenica has been invited to perform at music events of the
highest esteem such as the World Symposium on Choral Music, Eastern
Festival in Moscow, Dresdner Musikfestspiele, European Symposium on
Choral Music, Polyfollia, America Cantat, Choir Olympics, Europa Cantat
etc.
It is one of the foremost avant garde vocal ensembles, creating
contemporary music projects. With "Choregie - vocal theatre," Carmina
Slovenica introduces new concepts which incorporate music, drama,
movement and other stage elements. Such stage productions were:
Scivias, Vampirabile, Slovenian sounds, Adiemus, From Immemorial Times
- award winning productions performed at many international festivals
and broadcast by EBU and Eurovision.
Anchor Bay Children's Choir will open the concert for Carmina
Slovenica with a very short set of pieces depicting the season of
Autumn. Don Krieger is lending his keyboard to the choir for the concert.
Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 on the day of the performance;
young people ages 7 through 17 are admitted free.
