Some 900 members of the coastal community heard the Kronos Quartet perform The Sea Ranch Songs as part of the The Sea Ranch’s 50th anniversary celebration. Composed by Aleksandra Vrebalov with videography by Andrew Lyndon, the songs were performed by Kronos in the White Barn in May of 2015 to rave reviews. There was a call for a recording of the songs and now, thanks to very generous local donors, that call has been answered.

A CD/DVD set of the Kronos Quartet performing The Sea Ranch Songs will be released by Cantaloupe Music this fall. The entire coastal community can now celebrate this release at a screening of the DVD at Gualala Arts Center on September 30, 2016, at 7 p.m. in the Coleman Hall. Come and experience these magnificent songs and evocative film again or for the first time.

The Kronos Quartet has performed at the Gualala Arts Center twice, once at Art in the Redwoods in 2009 and again for an Earth Day concert in 2012.

Composer Aleksandra Vrebalov and videographer Andrew Lyndon will be on hand for the screening and for a discussion afterwards.

In writing about “The Sea Ranch Songs,” composer Vrebalov and David Harrington, founder of the Kronos Quartet, said they have experienced very few places in the whole world where an entire community is dedicated to live, build, and interact with its surroundings in harmonious ways.

“We celebrate the nature, people and architecture of this magical place by creating a piece with original music, documented sounds, and visual samples of different aspects of life and creativity in this rare landscape where people and nature are intertwined in a healthy union. This idea on a global scale may be utopian, but through music we will praise its beauty and affirm its urgent relevance in our wounded world so much in need of healing.”

Please join us for this special event. While admission is free, please reserve a ticket by visiting  Brown Paper Tickets or calling them at 800.838.3006.
