Open Studio in Ceramics

The Gualala Art Center Clay Studio is a place in the redwoods with all the tools and supplies you could possibly dream of. It is a space very conducive to creative work. Knowledgeable ceramicist volunteers are on hand to guide you to the next challenge in your creative journey. From clay supplies, throwing wheels, a monster slab roller, and 2 kilns, the studio has everything needed to begin and finish a project. Compared to other clay studios in the Bay Area, the fees are very affordable. This could be the place to undertake your next artistic journey.

We fire both low fire [cone 06-04] and high fire [mid-range cone 5-6].

Beginners through advanced students are welcome. The studio is staffed by volunteer instructors Monday and Thursdays 11am to 4pm.  Please join us to contribute your interests and talents in this excellent facility. We hope you learn more about ceramics and enjoy the company of other artists.

Clay is sold by the 25 pound bag. The cost includes a surcharge to Gualala Arts for firing.  WE DO NOT ALLOW LEAD BASED GLAZES IN THE STUDIO for safety and regulatory reasons.

First time visitors to, and potential users of the Clay Studio must check in with instructor, Jane Head, on Mondays before using the Clay Studio, contact her at jhead@mcn.org. Once you have completed an orientation with Jane you can sign up to work in the clay studio.

Email Jane Head for an orientation at jhead@mcn.org

Clay Studio

The Gualala Arts Clay Studio is always looking for Volunteer Instructors. The more volunteer instructors we have, the more days we can be staffed and open for children. To be a Volunteer Instructor, you must be willing to volunteer one day a week. Volunteer Instructors receive free studio time. You must have some skill/experience working with clay and ceramics. You must also work and play well with others, particularly children. If you are interested speak with Jane Head (on Monday), our current Volunteer Instructor.
