Clay is available for purchase, and the price includes $10 that goes to Gualala Arts and covers firing of your pieces. Glazes are available from $4 to $11 for an 8 ounce jar, and the studio requests that you use its glazes.
The Clay Studio participates in the yearly Gualala Arts Summer Art Program for Youth. Students aged 12 through 17 are invited to use the Clay Studio at no charge after school on Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The popular clay studio offers children the opportunity to learn and express their creativity using the marvelous media of clay. During the first week, the children build their clay projects, followed in the second week by painting their artwork, using ceramic glazes or non-fired acrylics.
There are numerous projects for the children to tackle, such as bowls and/or mugs, magnets, balloon sculptures, picture frames, tiles, wind chimes and self-portraits. Older children have the additional option of creating a clock (clock works provided) and/or a bird house. Both groups also have time to use their imaginations and pursue their own individual projects.
