The Gualala Arts Book Club, an associate group of Gualala Arts, has been meeting for over two decades to read and discuss books of literary substance. The club’s steering committee takes care of scheduling and other organizational tasks.
The club’s members volunteer to take turns hosting, usually at their home, or leading a book discussion. At two meetings each month the same book is discussed. A member may choose each month to attend either on the first Wednesday 10:00 am – 12 noon or on the third Thursday 1:30 – 3:30 pm The location of these meetings and the title of the book are published on the Gualala Arts website and in the Independent Coast Observer (ICO) under the weekly events calendar tab.
In December the club meets for a holiday luncheon at the Gualala Arts Center. This meeting is hosted by members and supported with a yearly membership donation of $5.00.
Suggestions for books to be discussed are solicited throughout the year and especially at the December luncheon. The steering committee will add selections to a master list subject to the following criteria: literary substance, variety of theme, suitability for discussion and availability in paperback edition. The master list has short synopses of each book and is divided into Fiction, Non-Fiction (including memoirs) and Classics.
A member volunteering as discussion leader may choose a book from the master list, or may present another title to the committee, which will subject it to the above mentioned criteria for approval. The choice of one classic and one non-fiction selection per year is encouraged.
New members are welcome. For more information please contact one of the committee members:
