Local ArtistKate O'Donnell - Fabric ArtAfter raising a family and retiring from a nursing career, Kate returned to her love of fabric, sewing and creating. She started sewing at the age of ten and for many years was involved in the fabrication of garments for herself, family and home decor.
After moving West, Kate found the stained glass technique with its pattern symmetry was easily transferred to fabric and the art of quilting. Over the past fifteen years, with inspiration and education garnered from fellow quilt makers and internationally known artists, classes and courses in the art, she found herself exhibiting and selling her fabric art. She has expanded her quilting techniques to include wall hangings, framed quilt art and wearable art. She hand dyes and paints textiles and incorporates the use of commercial fabrics including cottons, silks, batiks, yarns beading and ribbon.
Kate's art has been shown at the Marin Quilt and Needle Arts Show, the Sewing Machine Shop, Walnut Creek, the Brown Ave. Quilt Show, the Rocheoli and Taft Galleries, the Art in the Garden Show in Fort Bragg and the Las Cruses Gallery. Her work can be found in homes located in the British West Indies, Bermuda, Germany, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and California. Working with textiles and fabric has become her passion inspired by love of family, friends, nature, and travel through out the United States, Europe and Australia. Kate loves to create while spending time with her husband Lou at their Irish Beach home and while in the Bay Area where they call home. Kate can be reached at her studio at katystudio@comcast.net.

The art of stained glass is in Kate's past as well. While living in Bethlehem, PA she studied with glass artist and entrepreneur, Marianne Crivellaro. She taught design and construction at Marianne's shop and local Y's that offered adult education. Her glass was sold to private individuals as well as corporations and restaurants. Her windows and lamps became known throughout the community.
