This is a great basket for beginning weavers as well as more experienced weavers. The class will concentrate on many different weaving techniques and will include discussion on natural dyes and materials. A good variety of naturally dyed materials will be available and so there will be ample room for individual creativity. Wear old clothes, bring your lunch, a towel, and come have fun.
About the instructor
I started weaving baskets in high school when I attended a seminar in Yosemite, California. That was over 40 years ago and I have not yet exhausted the possibilities of weaving nor grown tired of this wonderful craft. My love and appreciation of basketry has blossomed and re-seeded its self many times in all those years.
I am a 4th generation native Californian just transplanted to Nevada. I have been teaching workshops for 20 years. I love history and became a docent at Sutter's Fort in Sacramento where I taught hundreds of school children the basic techniques of basketry. I started a small business in the early 1990s making basket kits for state parks and museums. I am a member of The Great Basin Basket Makers Guild here in Nevada and they keep me very busy sharing the things I have learned. When I weave, I lose track of time. I believe that when that happens, one is doing what they love. If you visit my website, sweetwaterbaskets.com,
and go to the photo gallery link and you can see some of my work.
