The exciting medium of polymer clay lends itself easily and uniquely to book arts, assemblage and jewelry. The mystery of ancient cultures and far-away places will inspire this workshop as we learn a cornucopia of techniques that include transfers, carving, texturing and imprinting, three-dimensional elements and intricate colored clay designs.

Day One: You will learn to make imitative ivory with intricate images transferred permanently onto the clay via three different techniques. We will also explore antiquing and ageing the clay to highlight images and carvings. Next learn techniques to embellish the clay with metallic powders and foils, textures and impressed designs. You'll create book covers, jewelry, collage and/or assemblage pieces.

Day Two: You will learn how to create molds from your own treasures and then how to use these molds to make three-dimensional sculptural pieces to use in assemblage, quilt embellishments, jewelry, etc. After lunch we'll concentrate on the intricate colored clay designs of Venetian Millefiore, to create jewelry and/or book and collage elements.

About Dayle Doroshow

Dayle Doroshow is a mixed media / polymer clay artist and owner of design studio Zingaro, stamp of distinction. She trained in traditional ceramics at Columbia University Extension program in New York City and sold her pottery in Greenwich Village shops. She continued with the study of Book Arts through the California Crafts College extension program and at San Francisco Center for the Book. Her jewelry, home decor, ethnic figures and handcrafted books can be seen at art shows and galleries on the West Coast. Dayle enjoys teaching and sharing the creative process in workshops across the United States and in France. Her work can be seen at www.dayledoroshow.com.
