Gualala Arts Workshop
Breathing for Health and Awareness
Instructor: Riley Lee

Saturday, November 4, 10:00am - 12:00 noon

Riley Lee Register by: October 21

Tuition: $25 members; $30 non-members
Minimum 10 students

In this unique workshop, Riley will lead participants through a sequence of simple breathing exercises to promote health, vitality and well being. Learning correct breathing techniques will help one reduce stress levels, increase blood circulation, optimize oxygen intake and develop conscious awareness.

Riley Lee began plying the shakuhachi in Japan in 1971. He started teaching breathing workshops in the late 1980s, at the suggestion of one of his students, well-known Sydney acupuncturist Ross Penman. Riley has since refined and expanded his repertoire of exercises, gleaned from a number of sources and from his long and focused relationship with shakuhachi. The exercises are designed to create an awareness of one's breath while at the same time, improving the strength and control of the muscles used in breathing.

In the evening following the workshop, Riley Lee will give a shakuhachi flute performance in the Coleman Auditorium at Gualala Arts.
