The music of the Big Bands saw this country through some of the most difficult times, and to this day resonates with an American soul all its own. Gualala Arts' new entertainment series, "LocalEyes," is proud to present the swingin' Boonville Big Band at the Gualala Arts Center on Saturday, October 29, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $12.
The band meets weekly in Anderson Valley and has been performing around Mendocino County for the last five years. Composed of some of the county's finest musicians, they have entertained audiences from Willits to Point Arena, and from Fort Bragg to Boonville. Hoping to inspire young musicians, the band has played concerts at local schools and has helped raise money for many local charities.
The band's mutual pleasure in playing together is infectious and listeners can't help but respond to the Big Band beat with enthusiastic swing dancing. Band leader, the renowned Bob Ayres, is a gifted musician and has dedicated his life to spreading the joy of music to one and all. Boonville Big Band feels that their music imbibes the best of people's spirit, and to that proposition they vow to continue to bring light and happiness to whomever falls under their spell.
