Update, April 7, 2007: Winners Announced

The winners of the 2007 North Coast Artists' Guild Studio Tour brochure cover contest have been announced. A show of the artists' works has been on display in the Gualala Arts Center main gallery from early March. The winners were selected by votes of visitors and four jurors. The winners are:

The four jurors were all locals. They included Hall Kelley, a professional graphic designer, Marion Gates, owner of Henley's Art and Interiors, Ron Bolander, a professional photographer and Walt Rush, a jeweler and president of the North Coast Artists' Guild. Additionally, the public vote counted equally (i.e., 20%) as a fifth judge.

Each judge chose their top five two-dimensional and top five three-dimensional pieces. A score of 5 was given to first choice, 4 for second choice... down to 1 for fifth choice. The top two two-dimensional scores and top one three-dimensional score were chosen as the winners... the idea was to have multiple pieces on the cover with both two-dimensional and three-dimensional represented. There were approximately twice as many two-dimensional entries, which explains why two were chosen.

The North Coast Artists' Guild 15th annual Studio Discovery Tour will be held on the first two weekends of September. Brochures will be available by contacting tour director Scott Chieffo, at the Gualala Arts Center after June 1.

Studio Discovery Tour Catalog Cover Contest Exhibit Participants in the Studio Discovery Tour will compete to see whose work will be on the cover of this year's tour catalog. The reception for this Burnett Gallery exhibit will be Saturday, March 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and go through April 8. The winners will be announced on April 7 at the Whale and Jazz Festival.

The actual works that were photographed for the catalog will be on exhibit in the Burnett Gallery for this month. On the basis of the works, and not the photographs, the judges will decide whose work makes the cover. Visitors also can vote for their favorite and their pick will function as the choice of one judge. This is the second year that the honor of having the cover art has been decided by outside judges.

Here is a marvelous opportunity to see, in one place, the newest work from the participants in the annual Studio Discovery Tour. This year's Studio Discovery Tour will be held the first two weekends in September. Check www.studio-tours.com for more information.
