Gualala Arts Center presents an exhibit titled "Heroines, Ingénues and Leading Ladies" showing October 13 through November 4 in the Elaine Jacob Foyer. There will be oil paintings along with pen and ink drawings by Jim Vickery. His classic techniques conspire with humor and satire to create unique and edgy works.
Since moving to the coast, he has been inspired by the beauty of the area and has begun to paint landscapes in oil.
Jim was born in Hawai'i, a "navy brat," so he traveled in his youth but spent his adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been married to Lu Vickery for 35 years, has 3 adult children and now resides in Irish Beach, California.
He received a BFA from California Arts and Crafts in 1974 and has shown at the San Francisco Art Festival, The Sun Gallery and The Hayward Arts Council, both in Hayward, CA. He has done political cartoons for the Sierra Club newsletter and The Communication Workers of America newsletter.
Jim is currently showing at the Prentiss Gallery in Fort Bragg. He is a member of The Hayward Arts Council, Gualala Arts and North Coast Artists Guild.
