About the instructor

Portrait - Richard Clopton with BustRichard Clopton graduated from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 1971. A passion for exploration led to 20,000 miles sailed on the Pacific Ocean and numerous magazine articles which he wrote and illustrated describing his travels.

His combined interest in the natural world, training in the life sciences, and the technical and esthetic demands of a career in dentistry have produced a feeling for naturalistic form and subtle detail and texture evident in his work, which includes both human figurative, and animal subjects.

Clients include Levi Strauss & Company, Gump’s, Transamerica Corporation, The Nature Company, Wolfgang Puck for Granita in Malibu, Donna and Giovanni Scala for Bistro Don Giovanni in Napa Valley, Stone, Marraccini, and Patterson Architects, Margaret Lesher, and Danielle Steel.

His work has appeared in Restaurant/Hotel Design International, Southwest Art, and Designers Illustrated.
